It's not hard to pinpoint the source behind the popularity of Marvel's first Netflix series "Daredevil." The show's gritty tone and grounded nature hit the target for fans that were looking for something to complement the humor of Marvel's Cinematic Universe. All in all, season one ended up with top marks among critics. Season two could be even better if rumors that Jason Statham ("Furious 7," "Snatch") being eyed for the role of Bullseye turn out to be accurate.
Latino-Review says that "one trusted source at Marvel's new TV production offices" revealed this exciting morsel of information. Vincent D'Onofrio ("Full Metal Jacket," "Law & Order: Criminal Intent") stole the show as Wilson Fisk in season one thanks to his sinister calm. Bullseye is an entirely different type of villain, often being described as manic. The change in antagonists could keep the show's quality momentum going and help fix Marvel's villain problem.
"Daredevil" did not lack for quality fight scenes in its inaugural season. But Statham, who is no stranger to actions sequences, could bring even more to the table as a physical threat than D'Onofrio's Fisk. Just replace guns with flying projectiles and you've got one badass Bullseye on your hands.
Statham was previously in the running for the role back in 2003 when Ben Affleck was leading a big screen adaptation of the material. That role ultimately went to Colin Farrell whose performance was not well received by fans of the source material.
If rumors are to be believed, than season two is shaping up more than nicely for "Daredevil." In addition to Bullseye, the role of Elektra is expected to be added for next year. Charlie Cox ("Boardwalk Empire," "The Theory of Everything"), who plays Matt Murdock, is even lobbying for a possible Spider-Man cameo.
Season two of "Daredevil" will begin filming in the next few months before debuting in the first half of 2016.
