The remains of a man convicted of murdering his wife with whom he shares a grave site were removed at the request of her daughter, Reuters reported.
"Mr. Dallas' remains were disinterred this morning, with a Dallas family member present, and given to the Bush Funeral Home to make arrangements for them to be returned to Mr. Dallas' children on the East Coast," said Mary Siwierka, Safety Service director for the city of Elyria.
Crystal Denn, daughter of Mary Dallas, said that her mother died in her sleep in 1993 at a women's shelter from internal injuries and head trauma due to the beating her husband inflicted.
Marvin Dallas pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and was imprisoned.
While away from Cleveland where the remains of her mother were buried, 37-year-old Denne discovered that her mother’s headstone was touched after she saw dirt around it.
Denn knew that her stepfather had died in January and guessed that he was added to the grave site of her mother. After confirming it, she said she broke down and "almost lost her ability to stand," Yahoo!News reported.
According to Denn, she didn’t have contact with the killer’s family, especially because she was just 14 when her mother passed away.
The cemetery informed her that since the marriage wasn’t resolved, it granted the wishes of Marvin Dallas.
The site where her mother was buried was purchased by Denn’s uncle who still lives in the area. No one from the family was informed of Marvin Dallas’ burial with her mother.
When Denn brought the matter to the cemetery, it responded quickly. She also said that she would like to change the words on her mom’s headstone to “Beloved Wife."
