Hannah Anderson was found and rescued on Saturday after a week long manhunt for her kidnapper James Lee DiMaggio, but the teenager came home to terrible news.
The 16-year-old was unaware that her brother Ethan Anderson, 8, and her mother Christina Anderson, 44, were killed on Monday night, San Diego County Sheriff Bill Gore told the Los Angeles Times.
Now that Hannah is safe in her father's, Brett Anderson, care, Gore said they are focusing on helping the teen recovering from the trauma.
"Our focus now is on trying to get Hannah all the resources, the help she needs to get through this extremely traumatic ordeal she's been through," Gore said.
Gore told the LA Times Hannah was being held "under duress" by DiMaggio, 40, and she did not leave with him willingly.
DiMaggio was reportedly shot and killed by FBI agents on Saturday, after her fired shots at authorities, officials confirmed. The alleged killer had at least one weapon in his possession, according to Gore.
Hannah and DiMaggio were located when four horseback riders encountered them near Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness, tipping off police. Officials were able to locate DiMaggio's blue Nissan Versa hidden in brush with its license plates removed on Friday, according to LA Times.
Brett is thankful the manhunt is over, and made sure to thank law enforcement official's for his daughter's safe return.
"They did an excellent job and I can never show my appreciation enough to anybody out there that showed us love and support; terrific country, love you guys," Brett told Fox News.
However, he is concerned about his daughter's well-being and what she experienced during her six-day abduction.
"I'm ecstatic that my daughter and I will soon be reunited," Brett said. "I'm worried about what my daughter has been put through."
