Through two teaser trailers, J.J. Abrams has made it a point to focus on the new generation of characters being introduced in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." Sure, we've gotten a shot of Han and Chewie and one that could be Luke. But the new characters have really taken center stage. Today, however, we get a brief glimpse at a character from the original trilogy.
C-3PO, the lovable yet annoyingly neurotic protocol droid, may have a slightly different look in "The Force Awakens." Making Star Wars shared a photo from Twitter user Marc Zachacki who took a picture of a "Star Wars" themed soda can that is reportedly on sale in Mexico grocery stores. The image on the can shows the three main droids - C-3PO, R2-D2 and BB-8 - but out golden friend is rocking a brand new red arm.
Making Star Wars had previously acquired a rough version of the same image as a part of a promotional campaign, seemingly confirming that C-3PO has had to undergo some changes to his robot appendages since "Return of the Jedi." Why he may have needed to undergo repairs and be fitted with a spare part, we still don't know.
"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" will hit theaters on December 18.
