As the dark cloud of performance-enhancing drugs continues to loom over Major League Baseball, almost every person who plays a major role in the sport has been asked to give their opinion about the controversy. Therefore, it was not a surprise when Mike Trout was requested to do the same on 101.9 FM The Fan in New York. Trout told show hosts Boomer Esiason and Craig Carton that if a player is caught using P.E.D.’s, he believes that should signal the end of that player’s career.
Here’s an excerpt from the show:
MLB is definitely moving in the right direction with getting these guys. For me personally, I think you should be out of the game if you get caught. It takes away from the guys that are working hard every day and doing it all-natural. Some people are just trying to find that extra edge.
It’s tough as a guy that goes out there and plays hard every day and puts 110-perfect effort every time. Then you wake up the next day and you see there’s a list of guys that you know on the list. It’s good that MLB caught them and they are moving in the right directions with suspensions and stuff.
Trout and the Los Angeles Angels are in New York to begin a three-game series with the New York Yankees.
Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez is currently the face of the P.E.D. scandal, facing a 211-game suspension for his connection to the Biogenesis clinic. He has appealed the suspension and continues to play. Rodriguez went 2-for-4 with a homerun in yesterday’s 5-4 win against the Detroit Tigers.
The 22-year old Trout is currently batting .330 with 20 homeruns and 73 RBIs.
