A fawn from the world's smallest deer species was born last month at Queens Zoo!
The southern pudu was born on May 12 and is still nursing on her mother. As she grows her diet will switch to leaves, grains, kale, carrots and hay, reported The Associated Press.
The pudu is the smallest deer species in the world. They only grow to stand about one-foot-tall (measured at the shoulder) and measure about two-feet-seven-inches long, according to Animal Diversity.
This deer species typically has a rounded snout, slender hooves, and dark red-brown fur with lighter spots. Only male pudus have antlers.
This particular pudu recently born at Queens Zoo has yet to be named, although the zoo is encouraging visitors to stop by and welcome their newest addition!
