HTC is hiring a famous celebrity to help with their declining sales. He is someone who knows what a strong comeback means and how to do it good. This celebrity who can be HTC’s own superhero is no other than – Robert Downey, Jr.
The Taiwanese smartphone maker said on Monday that Robert Downey, Jr. has signed a two-year contract as a spokesperson for their “Here’s To Change” campaign. According to the Washington Post, HTC has confirmed that Robert Downey, Jr. will not only star in the spots but he has also “injected his own style” into the advertisements.
This coming Thursday, the very first full advertisement in the campaign will be shown over YouTube and will also be played on the television and movie theaters during commercial breaks. This commercial is a part of a bigger “brand platform” HTC is releasing, called Change. Change aims to feature the Taiwanese company’s “disruptive impact on the mobile industry over its 17-year history.”
Even in the face of strong reviews for its newest HTC One smartphone, the company is still having difficulties challenging with Apple and many other smartphone manufacturers like Samsung, who also incorporates Google’s mobile Android operating system. So, they definitely need a sales boost.
Last month, the firm reported that its revenue had dropped over 80 percent, in line with supervision the company presented earlier in the month. The company is still anticipating an operating loss for the third quarter of 2013, even if they announced that the HTC One had sold better than previous flagship models in the same period of time.
HTC has claimed that constructing out the middle-tier of its products, rather than on its more up to date strategy of focusing its efforts on a single flagship model such as the HTC One, is their main goal.
