Microsoft Windows 8.1 update is expected in October along with new 7-inch and 8-inch devices from partners.
Microsoft, the world's most valuable and the largest software making company, launched Windows 8.1 Preview in July, but general availability is not likely to happen until October. The company announced earlier that it intends to bring the update to device makers in late August, which is in accordance with plans. But the consumers will now have to wait a little longer to get their hands on the latest update for Windows 8.
Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer announced at the Build 2013 held in June that the company will launch smaller screen Windows devices in the coming months. The early launch of the Windows 8.1 for device manufacturers will give ample time to make necessary changes and updates to finely integrate the operating system into their devices before the product release, sources have confirmed to The Verge.
If the release goes as speculated, then Microsoft may be planning to launch the update and the smaller Windows devices marking Windows 8's one year anniversary in October 2013.
Windows 8.1 update will bring several major and subtle changes to the latest operating system. The support for 3D printing or the return of the Start button, consumers are eagerly awaiting the update as the successor of Windows 7 did not win the hearts of many.
Windows 8.1 update will also bring improved multitasking features, new smaller Live Tiles, enhanced built-in search engine, boot to desktop directly, customization of the desktop tiles with new backgrounds and colors and make the operating system faster and easier to navigate.
