Zoe Saldana Opens Up About Husband Taking Her Last Name, Their Mixed-Race Family and Feeling 'Stronger' After Twins

Introducing Mr. Marco Saldana! Zoe Saldana's husband, Marco Perego, did something completely nontraditional when he married her.

The Italian artist took his wife's last name, and he doesn't "give a sheet" about what people think.

In the July 2015 issue of InStyle Magazine, the 36-year-old "Guardians of The Galaxy" star revealed that her husband took her name after the two secretly married in the summer of 2013. Saldana admitted that she tried to talk her husband out of it - but he wouldn't listen.

"I tried to talk him out of it," the actress confessed to the magazine. "I told him, 'If you use my name, you're going to be emasculated by your community of artists, by your Latin community of men, by the world.'"

His response, "Ah, Zoe, I don't give a sheet."

In the interview, Saldana, who welcomed twins Cy and Bowie six months ago, opened up on how motherhood has changed her marriage and how she views her body.

"Since I've been with Marco, I've been lowering my guard," she shared. "Finally when we had our boys, I looked at my husband and I realized: I was meant for you and you were meant for me. I've always felt comfortable around men as long as they were friends. Now I finally feel comfortable with my lover. I don't want to be separate. I want my church. I want to live inside the religion of our own little family."

When it comes to her boys being mixed races, the actress said, "What was important for my mother is that we married somebody who still had dreams and aspirations, not what color or class they were from. We were all colors, but we never talked about it. We all ate the same food. I look at Cy and he looks almost Cambodian. I look at Bo and it's like, 'Oh, our little pharaoh.'"

The "Avatar" actress has been using social media to share with her fellow mothers her progress in getting her post-baby body back and trying to feel comfortable in her own skin while embracing the changes her body went through during pregnancy.

"I don't want to get back to where I used to be. I want to feel healthy, and not just fit into the old jeans I used to wear," Saldana said. "I'm a woman now. My body has changed forever. It's softer...and stronger."
