Albert Pujols is among the most seasoned veterans in the MLB. Carlos Correa is one of the league's rising stars at just 20 years old. The two players hit home runs last night and made their mark on the MLB.
Pujols' 536th home run tied New York Yankees' legend Mickey Mantle for 16th on the all-time home run list and helped the Los Angeles Angels defeat the Tampa Bay Rays 8-2 in St. Petersburg, FL. Pujols finished 3-for-4 with three runs scored, a home run and an RBI.
The veteran now also needs only four RBIs to pass Chicago Cubs' legend Ernie Banks on the all-time RBI list. Check out his home run below:
"It's pretty special," Pujols said after the game, via ESPN. "Mickey's a legend. My goal is try to help this team to win. I'm glad I was able to do that."
Pujols is batting .268/.317/.531 with 32 runs scored, 16 home runs and 30 RBIs this season. The Angels (29-29) trail the Houston Astros by four games for first place in the AL West and Pujols hopes to get Los Angeles into the postseason beyond the ALDS for the first time since 2009.
Correa also achieved his milestone on the road. The rookie hit his first career home run against the Chicago White Sox last night, but the Houston Astros fell 4-2 and have now lost six straight games. Correa's two-run shot off of Zach Duke in the top of the ninth cut the White Sox lead in half, but the rally ended when outfielder George Springer lined out to right with a runner on second.
Check out Correa's home run below, which came in his second career game:
"It's always good to get the first one out of the way," Correa told Brian McTaggart of MLB.com. "I wish we could have won the game. We battled back and tried to come back in the game. We gave a lot of effort that last inning. It felt great."
Correa made his MLB debut against the White Sox on Monday and it's safe to say there's plenty more where that came from.
