After a relatively quiet month, the past few days have seen rumors about the next iPhone from Apple flying left and right. Below is our rundown of the most likely facts about what will be featured on the next smartphone from Apple.
The Name: There is no rule that says Apple can't jump to an iPhone 6 rather than take time to go through the its usual tradition of coming out with an "S' model of its flagship phone before giving it a number upgrade. Unfortunately, despite what many people speculate, the next iPhone won't be enough of an upgrade to be considered a full number upgrade to the iPhone. The iPhone 6 is likely a 2014 release with a 4.7-5-inch screen.
Fingerprint Scanner: New broke on Monday that the iPhone 5S might sport a scanner that can add a bit of additional security to all users who need to rely on more than a password or pass code before accessing their device. This is expected to help Apple gain a little more traction as the go-to smartphone for the workplace environment. More security equals safety for sensitive bank or employee information.
Sapphire Home Button: In order to accommodate the fingerprint scanner, the only physical button on the iPhone will be seeing a change as well. The old plastic button will be replaced with a sapphire home button, the strongest material second only to diamond. In addition, the button will no longer be dipped in but set at a convex angle that protrudes outwardly a little bit to fit the fingerprint scanner. There are conflicting rumors about how ready the scanner will be by the device's release date, but many speculate it will either have room for one in the future or will come fully supported with the phone's unveiling.
Specs: The most obvious feature of the iPhone 5S will be its stock operating system being the improved and top-of-the-line iOS 7. It I sreported by TechRadar to be coming with a 13MP rear-facing camera with an LED Flash, it will have a full retina display running 1080p full HD resolution. Unfortunately for those who enjoy the size of phablet phones like the HTC One or Samsung Galaxy S4, the display won't be any bigger than the iPhone 5. The 6 is expected to be the bigger display version. There is also talks of a slow-motion camera as well.
Battery: One of the biggest complaints about the iPhone 5 was its small and unreliable battery life. According to a leaked photo, which is apparently from October of last year, the new iPhone prototype showed a 5.92Whr battery. This will improve the battery life significantly although by how much remains to be seen.
The iPhone 5S is likely to be released at a press event on September 10. It is likely the low-cost iPhone C will be released around that time as well along with the new iOS 7.
