A Mumbai man gave hospital staffers a shock when he started breathing on an autopsy table moments before his autopsy was to begin, said Yahoo. On Sunday, the man from Mumbai was mistakenly certified as dead, when he was merely unconscious and suffering from several infections.

The man had been found unconscious at a bus stop and was taken to the Lokmanya Tilak Municipal General Hospital, according to the Daily News, where a doctor checked for his pulse, didn't find one and sent him to the morgue.

When hospital staff was prepping the 45-year-old man for his autopsy, he started breathing and was rushed immediately to intensive care, where he then died.

Both the doctors and the Mumbai police are blaming each other for the misdiagnosis, but both agree that the homeless man did indeed die Tuesday from the infections.

"Yes, he has died," Ashok Dudhe, Mumbai police deputy commissioner said, according to Times of India.

'We were shocked to find patient was alive after he had been declared dead. We have written to the dean of Sion Hospital, asking him to conduct an inquiry and give us the report," Senior Police Inspector Yeshunas Gorde said. "Once the report is out, we can take action. The hospital authorities should take action against the person responsible for this incident."

"We have reprimanded the doctor and have told him that in such cases the body must be kept in the casualty ward for a cooling off period of two hours," added Gorde. "This doctor is new to the hospital and so isn't familiar with the procedure."

A senior hospital official said that the cause of death is unknown at this time, but a postmortem exam will give the results.
