Anne Hathaway wants to be a princess again. "The Princess Diaries" director Garry Marshall recently revealed that both he and Hathaway are planning on making a third film in the series. Marshall directed both the first "Princess Diaries" film and the sequel "Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement," which are based on Meg Cabot's popular book series.

The first film came out in 2001 and made Hathaway a household name while the sequel was released in 2004 and co-starred Chris Pine. Cabot published more than a dozen books in her "Princess Diaries" book series between 2000 and 2009, and Cabot returned to the series in 2015 to complete Princess Mia's story with "Royal Wedding," so there is plenty of material to work with.

"I was with Anne Hathaway a couple weeks ago, it looks like we want to do 'Princess Diaries 3' in Manhattan," Marshall said. "Anne Hathaway is very pregnant, so we have to wait until she has the baby and then I think we're going to do it."

As for Pine, Marshall said that is was very possible that the actor would return to the series, but he did not promise anything. "Maybe," the director said. "He's quite big now, you know."

While Pine has gone on to star in the "Star Trek" series as Captain Kirk since his time in Genovia, during a recent Tumblr Q&A Pine revealed that he would be open to retuning for "The Princess Diaries 3." A fan asked him if he "prayed every night for a 'Princess Diaries 3?'"

"Have you been reading my diary???" the actor cheekily replied.

Pine's father, Robert Pine, is one of the stars of Marshall's next film "Mother's Day," which also stars Julia Roberts, Jennifer Aniston and Kate Hudson. With Marshall currently working so closely with his father, it does not seem out of the question the younger Pine and Marshall could once again team up for "The Princess Diaries 3."

"Yes, well Chris Pine likes me, you know why? Because his father is in 'Mother's Day,'" the director said. "His father I know, I've seen him in plays. Chris Pine and my kids went to similar schools, so I knew him as a kid."
