'Kick-Ass 2' Review: 'A Special Kind of Crap: The Kind Smart People Make For Audiences They Think Are Stupid' (TRAILER)

Fanboys, rejoice! "Kick-Ass 2" is here, back for its second round of vigilante crime-fighting, but will it stand a chance against the first film?

The answer is: maybe...not.

The problem with every sequel is the difficulty it has to top the original. Filmmakers have not quite mastered the balance of keeping true to the story, while creating a whole new experience for the viewers.

Whether critics deem the film "good" or "bad", fans of the franchise will be sure to go see "Kick-Ass 2." Now, for what you have clicked to read. Check out what movie buffs had to say about the film:

San Jose Mercury News' take on Kick-Ass 2:

"Kick-Ass 2" doesn't kick much ass.

Well, literally, it does. In fact, more derrières probably were kicked in it than in the first "Kick-Ass" (though, thankfully, nothing here matches the gruesomeness of Nicolas Cage's death in the original).

However, the sequel doesn't come anywhere close to matching the freshness, outrageousness and fun of the original; nor does it manage to keep alive the irony and tongue-in-cheek delight of having overmatched nerds putting on costumes and trying to fight crime.

Boston Globe can't seem to find the good either:

The Boston Globe's Ty Burr calls "Kick-Ass 2" "a special kind of crap: the kind smart people make for audiences they think are stupid." He continues, "I can't remember a more unpleasant time at the movies than the 103 minutes I spent watching this needless, witless sequel. It's a mean-spirited, ultra-violent action-comedy with the emotional maturity of an arrested 12-year-old and the ethical compass of a turnip." And that's just the first paragraph.

TheWrap.com calls the film "whiny:"

While the 2010 "Kick-Ass" was far from perfect, it did feel like a movie that understood the power fantasies of teenage boys with deadly accuracy. If the original felt like it was designed for adolescents, however, this follow-up feels like it was made by an adolescent, one with a whopping case of ADHD.

I'll admit it is difficult to find a positive review about "Kick-Ass 2." In fact, there may not be one out there, but if you are a hard-core fan of the series, go check it out for yourself. If not, you may want to Redbox this flick.
