An Oregon man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after his parents' corpses were found in a freezer at their home, said authorities on Thursday, the Associated Press reported.
Thirty-eight-year-old Jeremy Daniel Ringquist was placed under arrest on two counts of aggravated murder in connection to the deaths of his parents, Randy and Karen Ringquist. Ringquist was living with the
victims in Springfield, according to police Sgt. Rich Charboneau.
The discovery was made by police authorities, who had previously performed welfare checks on them after relatives said they couldn't reach the family, but were deterred by notes that said that the family was away, according to Oregon Live.
Authorities arrived at the house again on Tuesday after 911 emergency services received a call from a man asking for a police negotiator. When the entered the home, they found two bodies inside the freezer and took an injured Ringquist to a nearby hospital. He was later discharged from the hospital and booked in jail on Thursday morning, said Charboneau, according to Reuters.
It is still not clear whether Ringquist has appointed a lawyer or will ask the judge to arrange for a court-appointed attorney at a court hearing scheduled for Friday.
Police refused to comment further on a possible motive until detectives finished their investigation at the house in Springfield, located approximately 110 miles south of Portland, said Charboneau.
