The three Oklahoma teens suspected to have murdered Australian college baseball player Christopher Lane, 22, have be release, according to reports.
The teens will be tried as adults facing charges of first-degree murder are Chancey Luna, 16, James Edwards, 15, and Michael Jones, 17, News.com.au reports.
According to the New York Post, the parents of the teens claim they are innocent, even though Jones reportedly confessed to the crime.
Police Chief Danny Ford said, "he had secured the confession of the 17-year-old who summoned investigators to his jail cell and claimed he and the younger boys were bored 'so they decided to kill somebody'."
However, Chancey Luna's mother, Jennifer Luna, says her son did not shot Lane, and was at home during the time of the murder, according to reports.
"My son is not that way. My son is a good kid," Jennifer told the NY Post.
Former Deputy Prime Minister Tim Fischer reportedly was angered by the crime, and urged Australian to boycott visiting the United States. According to the NY Post, he believes America needs "tighter gun control."
"Tourists thinking of going to the USA should think twice,'' Mr. Fischer said. "This is the bitter harvest and legacy of the policies of the NRA that even blocked background checks for people buying guns at gunshows...People should take this into account before going to the United States...I am deeply angry about this because of the callous attitude of the three teenagers (but) it's a sign of the proliferation of guns on the ground in the USA...There is a gun for almost every American.''
Lane's American girlfriend, Sarah Harper, 23, spoke out to the media about the murder of her boyfriend.
"It's been pretty rough. It's been hard knowing he was taken so close to home, let alone taken in the way he was. To be pointed out like that ...," Harper said, the NY Post reports.
She is incredibly distraught and told the Herald sun she doesn't know what the appropriate punishment should be for the teens' crime.
"They saw Christopher jog by the house they were at, they chose him to be the target, they got in the car, drove up behind him and shot him in the back," Chief Ford said, recounting Jones' statement. "He said the 16-year-old fired the shot."
A Facebook page was started in memory of Christopher Lane.
