James Lee DiMaggio, Alleged Calif. Murderer and Kidnapper, Leaves Victim Hannah Anderson's Grandmother As Sole Beneficiary in $112,000 Life Insurance Policy

Another twist has been added into the Hannah Anderson kidnapping case, as multiple reports say her abductor, James Lee DiMaggio, made the teen's grandmother, Bernice Anderson, the sole beneficiary to his $112,000 life insurance policy.

The Los Angeles Times reports DiMaggio wished to leave the money to Hannah and Ethan Anderson in back when he first set up the policy in 2011. However, he told his sister he did not want to leave it to Hannah's parents because he was afraid their relationship was uneasy and ready to fall apart.

"DiMaggio lived with Bernice Anderson for about two years before buying a house in 2009 in Boulevard, about 65 miles east of San Diego," Andrew Spanswick, a spokesman for DiMaggio's family, told the Associated Press.

DiMaggio was a close friend of the family, and Hannah and Ethan referred to him as "Uncle Jim."

Hannah recently made her first public appearance since the alleged murder of her brother Ethan and mother, Christina Anderson. She went to a local fundraiser her the small, San Diego community of Lakeside, Calif. held for her and her family.

The teen did not speak to reporters waiting for her at the fundraiser, but her father took the time to address the media.

"This is a small community that we are a part of. The community came together putting on this great fundraiser for Hannah... and this is how Lakeside rolls," Brett told reporters. "So I just wanted to say how much we appreciate it from everybody, the community, family, friends for being here ... and local sheriffs and law enforcement."

DiMaggio was accused of torturing and killing Ethan and Christina Anderson on Aug. 4. DiMaggio then kidnapped Hannah and fled to Idaho, where FBI officials rescued the teen six days later. He was shot and killed by authorities during the rescue.
