Season 4 of “The Good Wife” seem to foreshadow extremely slim chances Will (Josh Charles) and Alicia (Julianna Margulies) ever get back together.
Earlier this year, Charles signed a one year deal with CBS to continue playing the role, according to TVLine.com.
Robert King, executive producer of “The Good Wife,” said Charles’ contract gives the show some options heading into Season 5, reports TVLine founder Michael Ausiello. Specifically, the show could decide to keep Will or get rid of him.
“We can turn on, well, not a dime, but a 50-cent piece,” King said discussing the direction of Season 5. “We can turn things pretty fast if we need to.”
The EP also said fans shouldn’t read too much into Charles decision.
“It’s what Josh is about. He’s someone who wants to always explore different sides of himself,” King said referring to Charles’ choice to sign the short-term deal. “And how [Season 5] goes helps him decide what he wants to do. That sounds like there’s some contentiousness in our relationship. There’s not. Josh is one of the friendliest and nicest actors I’ve met. Anything that is contractual stays with the agents.”
For any of you fans who were are glad to see that Will and Alicia didn’t get back together at the end of Season 4, Marguiles is right there with you.
She was happy it was Cary (Matt Czuchry) and not Will standing in Alicia’s doorway at the end of the season.
"I would not have been happy if it was Will," Margulies admitted earlier this year according to EOnline. "They didn't tell me how it was going to end and when I was reading the script I thought, 'Oh god, I hope we're not becoming that soap opera, that constant love triangle.' It's just going to get old too fast and it's just going to undermine these characters. So the ending, when I read it the first time I remember calling them and being like 'Oh my god, you're brilliant! Thank you!'"
Season 5 of the Good Wife premieres Sept. 29, 8/7c on CBS.
