Kelly Clarkson Wedding Called Off WHY? 'Catch My Breath' Singer Eloping With Brandon Blackstock?

Grammy-winning artist Kelly Clarkson has called off her big wedding with Brandon Blackstock, according to People magazine, though the superstar singer and her fiancé still have plans to wed. Why was the wedding called off, and where will the couple go from here?

Clarkson and Blackstock were originally planning an "earthy," outdoor wedding in the backyard of their home, but things changed when the pressure to put on a big event got to be too much for the couple.

"We are so busy that we finally just came to terms the other night and were like, 'So, we change our minds and we want to elope.' We just got so overwhelmed by it - all the decisions," Clarkson told People. "We sent out a save-the-date to everyone and then it got crazy and all the details were leaking."

It's understandable that the singer, known for keeping her private life concealed from the media, would want her special day to be similarly secretive. After the duo decided to call off the wedding, Clarkson explained that they "sent out an engagement photo to everyone and said, 'Thank you so much for understanding, but it's just going to be me and Brandon and his two kids and the minister.'"

Will the musical couple have a big celebration after they elope?

"Our whole life is a celebration," Clarkson said. "That's what we kept laughing about. We don't need another day where we throw a big party. Our lives are so in the spotlight all the time. Everything is such a spectacle, we were like, 'We would rather have an intimate moment that's special.' Our friend is throwing us [a party] because we're about to wrap up construction at our house. He's throwing us a huge stock the bar party, so all of the people who were going to be at our wedding will be there."

In her newest music video, "Tie It Up," a number of happy couples are wed to the rocker song featuring the lyrics, "Let's set the date/let's hire the band/let's cut the cake/tie up the cans," Clarkson even showing off her own engagement ring, the video ending with her catching the bouquet.

Ironic though the video may be, considering the recent turn of events, Clarkson explained how the hit wedding-themed song came to be.

"One of my really good friends was with me when I first met Brandon years ago, so she and another one of my friends wrote this cool song that deals with our whole story, so we went to this really beautiful barn in Franklin, Tenn., and all of the people in the video are friends or friends of friends. We were like, 'We're going to have this fake wedding reception,'" she told People magazine.

As for soon becoming a step-mom to Blackstock's two children, Clarkson spilled On Air With Ryan Seacrest recently that "it's perfect."

"They're awesome, and I actually really dig the mom thing," she told Seacrest. "I have a 12-year-old and a 6-year-old now...after being single for six years."

The two plan to tie the knot, with or without a big ceremony, this October.
