Adult film actress Cameron Bay, 28, test positive for HIV, causing a temporary shut down until the tests were confirmed.
According to ABC News, the actress released the following statement through the Free Speech Coalition, a group that regulates testing for sexually transmitted diseases:
"As difficult as this news is for me today, I am hopeful that no other performers have been affected. I plan on doing everything possible to assist the medical professionals and my fellow performers. Following that, my long-term plan is to take care of myself and my health."
Bay also took to her official Twitter account to thank her supporters.
"Today has been challenging, insightful and just a little bit easier to handle.. I've had amazing support from so many ppl and honestly without all of you I don't think I would be this strong," Bay tweeted.
Mark Schechter, Bay's agent, released a statement on the behalf of his client. He says Bay is "obviously distraught" by the news, but is fully cooperating with the Free Speech Coalition to make sure her partners get tested immediately.
"Cameron has been a model citizen acting responsibly at this most difficult time," Schechter said, ABC News reports. "Her courage should be lauded."
Neither Bay or the Free Speech Coalition have been able to confirm how the adult film actress was infected with HIV.
"There is no indication of on-set transmission," Diane Duke, CEO of the Free Speech Coalition, said in a statement.
"Because of the rigorous APHSS [Adult Production Health and Safety Services] protocols, the situation was accessed quickly and - most importantly - action was taken to ensure the protocols were followed," Duke said.
According to ABC News, this is the first positive HIV test in Los Angeles County porn industry since 2004. However, adult film actors remain at a higher risk of contracting STDS.
