Kitten Survives 28-Mile Ride Under Car Hood, Finds New Home

A kitten that survived a 28-mile trip from Pennsylvania to New Jersey under the engine of a pickup truck found a new home at an adoption event.

Jennifer Blunts, her boyfriend John Tegethoff and his daughter Kimberly Tegethoff adopted the kitten, who will live at their home in Kunkletown, Pa., reported NJ.com. The adoption took place with a ceremony at Common Sense for Animals in New Village, N.J.

According to Sgt. Darren Tynan, the family was among the first to contact the Hackettstown Police Department when the story about the cat hit the news.

The cat survived a 30-minute trip from East Stroudsburg, Pa., to the Mars Chocolate North America headquarters parking lot in Hackettstown, N.J., while avoiding injury from the car's fan blades under the hood. The cat was then named Mars.

Mars was saved when workers passing by the truck heard a purring noise and called the cops. The police responded by removing the kitten from the hood.

Meanwhile, Mars Petcare, a subsidiary of Mars that produces brands like Iams and Whiskas, paid for the adoption fees and donated food for the cat for a whole year.

"When our Mars Chocolate colleagues reached out to share this story, we knew exactly what we needed to do," said Marketing Director Mindy Barry of Cat Brands, Mars Petcare, reported PR Newswire. "Our sole purpose at Mars Petcare is to make a better world for pets, so we felt compelled to ensure Mars not only found a forever home, but also had everything he'd need to get started towards a long and healthy life."

Apart from the food and treats for Mars, Mars Petcare also donated $1,000 worth of food and treats to the Common Sense for Animals shelter to help other felines still looking for a new home.
