‘Star Wars Episode 7’ RUMORS: Han Solo Down & Out in ‘The Force Awakens?’

Warning: The following contains possible spoilers for "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."

One testament to Han Solo's greatness is the way he turned scruffy looking nerf herders into a symbol of cool for generations of "Star Wars" fans. Harrison Ford's iconic character is now beloved across the world which is why fans are so incredibly excited to see his return in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."

But the details surrounding his return are still unclear. Fans don't know why or how Han is being roped into this new adventure or anything about his life post- "Return of the Jedi." However, if Making Star Wars Editor-in-Chief Jason Ward is to be believed (and his scoops have been spot on thus far), then Han's story hasn't had quite the happy ending fans were hoping for.

"People talk about the Falcon to Han Solo just before Star Wars: The Force Awakens," Ward wrote. "In fact, thugs want the Falcon. Han Solo disagrees and refuses but it isn't clear exactly what happens to the ship and if Han has to give it up in the days before Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It appears if Han and Chewie do not have the Falcon in The Force Awakens, they have only just lost the ship shortly before the film begins.

"Just before the events of Star Wars: The Force Awakens Han and Chewie are very down and out. Han is older, sadder, bitter, and hangs out in bars all the time. The years haven't been kind to the smuggler. Although Jabba is out of his life, Solo found new men willing to kill him and his life is as complicated as it ever was."

Who are these new men and what is the nature of their conflict with Han? Why isn't Han with Leia and Luke? Has he returned to illegal smuggling?

These are just a few questions Ward's report sparks as "Star Wars" fans try to get a handle on just what happened to our favorite vest-wearing space cowboy following the conclusion of the original trilogy. Unfortunately, it doesn't sound as if Han and Lei received their happily ever after. Perhaps this means "The Force Awakens" will be a redemption story of sorts for Han Solo.
