Lena Dunham Launching Newsletter For Feminists This Fall

Lena Dunham is taking her feminist message to the masses with a new online newsletter called Lenny.

"Introducing Lenny. An email newsletter where there's no such thing as too much information," the pitch reads on the website's homepage.

Dunham plans to launch the weekly newsletter in September with her production partner and "Girls" showrunner, Jenni Konner. They want to target "an army of like-minded intellectually curious women and the people who love them, who want to bring change but also want to know, like, where to buy the best tube top for summer that isn't going to cost your entire paycheck," Dunham told Buzzfeed.

The "Girls" creator along with her close celebrity pals will help write for Lenny. Jessica Grose, a former editor at Slate, will oversee the newsletter as editor-in-chief. The staff will be rounded out by associate editor Laia Garcia, editor-at-large Doreen St. Félix and CEO Benjamin Cooley (Konner's ex-husband and fellow producer).

Dunham and her partners will self-finance the project as they work to establish revenue stream through selected advertisers. Konner told Buzzfeed it's "e-commerce that collaborates with independent female artists and designers in ethical, affordable, and witty apparel and design items."

The goal is to reach people "who have totally diverse interests," Dunham said. "People who want to talk about radical politics but also want to talk about fashion and also want to talk about Rihanna, and also understand that all of those things can be happening at the same time."

The editorial team also compared the site to Goop, the lifestyle website by Gwyneth Paltrow, of which Dunham and Konner are both fans. "Jenni and I have always been obsessed with Goop," the 29-year-old actress said.

Dunham has faced harsh criticism on social media and in comment sections, but still wants to engage in online conversations. She hopes Lenny will be a way "to remember that the internet has the power to take you into quiet places - something we don't usually use it for."

Users can sign up now for the email, but the newsletter won't starting going out until this fall.
