TLC announced early Thursday that they would be canceling "19 Kids and Counting" several weeks after it was revealed that Josh Duggar had sexually molested five girls. The Duggar family has taken it upon themselves to address the news.
After 10 seasons, an 11th will not be happening and the show "will no longer appear on the air," TLC told the Associated Press. The network believed that this was the best decision after a month and a half of "thoughtful consideration."
The family has decided to see the cancellation as a blessing rather than hurtful. "Years ago, when we were asked to film our first one hour documentary about the logistics of raising 14 children, we felt that it was an opportunity to share with the world that children are a blessing and a gift from God," they wrote on their website.
They then went on to thank the film crew, which was with them for over a decade. "They have become like family to us," the family wrote. "We love and appreciate them so much!"
The Duggars took this "terrible situation" with what Josh did in his younger years and found a way to heal and move forward. As parents, they couldn't be more proud of their children and "the wonderful adults they have all become."
"We appreciate the love, support, prayers and kindness extended to us by many of you. You have deeply touched our hearts and encouraged us, during this time," they continued to write. "We know Who holds the future and are confident that He will work all the things together for good. We love each of you and look forward to unfolding the future with peace and joy."
Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar hinted at an "upcoming special documentary" with TLC, most likely one last "19 Kids" special, but did not say anything else on what that would entail.
