The Philadelphia Eagles don't exactly have a quarterback controversy on their hands, but they certainly have an interesting situation at the position. Head coach Chip Kelly traded for former No. 1 overall pick Sam Bradford this offseason, re-signed Mark Sanchez and added Tim Tebow to go along with Matt Barkley. Bradford is expected to be the starter, but he is coming off a second ACL tear and hasn't taken a regular season snap since 2013.
For this reason, and many more, Eliot Shorr-Parks of NJ.com makes the argument that Sanchez should be the starter.
"Sanchez enters training camp, unlike last year, feeling 100% recovered from the shoulder surgery that cost him the entire 2013 season," Shorr-Parks wrote. "Speaking at OTAs earlier this summer, Sanchez said he can feel a difference in his arm strength, and it shows up on the film."
Health is a skill and, right now, Sanchez has it while Bradford doesn't. The latter is expected to be ready for the regular season, but it's unknown what type of football shape he will be in or how long it will take him to get acclimated to NFL game speed.
"In addition to recovering from a torn ACL, Bradford also has the task of learning the Eagles' offense - something Sanchez already knows like the back of his hand.
"Last season as a starter, Sanchez led the Eagles to more yards per game and more points than Nick Foles did. Although he was the quarterback for some key losses (against some of the best teams in the NFC), Sanchez has proven he can move the ball in Kelly' offense and can get the Eagles on the board."
In nine games last season Sanchez completed 64.1 percent of his passes while throwing for 2,418 yards with 14 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Although he had his moments in Kelly's offense, Eagles fans would be remiss if they didn't remember the 80 career picks Sanchez has thrown in 71 total games.
