Michael Douglas, Catherine Zeta-Jones Separate: After 13 Years of Marriage Hollywood Couple Decide to ‘Take Time Apart’

Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones have decided to separate after 13 years of marriage, People magazine reports. The Hollywood couple married in 2000 at the Plaza Hotel in Manhattan but a source says the recent stress and turmoil their relationship has been through is now taking a toll.

According to the magazine, the couple hasn't been photographed together since April and have been attending red carpet events and vacationing solo. Most recently Douglas was spotted on a yacht while his wife was back home in New York.

The source told People that the couple is "taking time apart" but neither one has made a move to file for divorce or get a legal separation.

In the past couple years their marriage has definitely had to endure some ups and downs. In 2010 Douglas was diagnosed with throat cancer and revealed that the disease was the culprit of oral sex. In an interview with British newspaper, The Guardian, he said that doctors found a tumor on the back of his tongue and it was due to the sexually transmitted infection, HPV.

"I will always remember the look on his face," Douglas said in the interview. "He said: We need a biopsy.' There was a walnut-size tumor at the base of my tongue that no doctor had seen."

He underwent treatment and eventually beat the disease. His wife was also dealing with health issues after it was revealed she was receiving care for bipolar II disorder.

Douglas' rep Allen Burry confirmed the news to Page Six but insists they are evaluating and working on their marriage.

Douglas and Zeta-Jones have two children together Dylan, 13 and Carys, 10.
