Marvel's "Ant-Man" continues its dominance at the weekend box office, grossing $24.8 million during its second opening weekend, earning $106.1 million so far domestically.
"Pixels," the science fiction comedy film starring Adam Sandler that features appearances from the likes of arcade game characters Pac-Man and Donkey Kong, came in behind with a disappointing opening of $24 million domestically and has been panned by critics, according to Variety.
Even though "Ant-Man" is Marvel's lowest domestic debut since "The Incredible Hulk," the former's earnings is already close to the 2008 film's $263.4 million haul, because of the additional $120.4 million it gained from international markets, bringing its two-week worldwide total of $226 million.
"Minions," the blockbuster animated film based on the popular yellow, gibberish-talking characters from the "Despicable Me" franchise, follows in at third with $22.1 million while Amy Schumer's "Trainwreck" and Jake Gyllenhaal's "Southpaw" round up the top five with $17.3 million and $16.5 million respectively, according to IGN.
Meanwhile, "Paper Towns," the film adaptation based on the John Green novel starring Nat Wolff and Cara Delevigne, debuted with estimated $6.3 million on Friday, according to the Los Angeles Times.
