Hartford Nightclub Fatal Shootings: Up Or On the Rocks Shuts Down After 2 Young Men Die Outside Club In A Week

A popular nightclub in Hartford, Conn. will shut down after altercations reportedly led to fatal shootings.

NBC Connecticut reports Hartford Mayor Pedro Segarra has asked Up or On the Rocks to close its doors. The owner will comply with the request and will meet with city officials to discuss a possible reopening in the future.

Miguel Delgado, 21, from East Harford was reportedly suffered a gunshot wound to the chest. Delgado was found in a block away from the nightclub.

There are no confirmed reports of a suspect in custody, and it is not clear what was the cause of the fight. Delgado's death marks the 18th homicide for Hartford this year, according to The Hartford Courant.

"[Officials] believe Delgado had gotten into an altercation with someone in the club and the fight escalated outside, where someone pulled out a gun and shot him," NBC reports. "Police were in the area early this morning, heard a single gunshot and rushed to the crime scene at Church and High streets."

Thursday night's shooting is the second crime linked to Up or On the Rocks in a week.

According to News 8 WTNH, Brian Simpe, 19, from Manchester was also shot in the chest after an altercation at the nightclub.

Police reportedly believe Simpe got into a fight over girl. Witnesses said a large group formed outside of the nightclub around 2 a.m. Sunday, an altercation broke out and shots were fired.

Simpe died from the gunshot wound to the chest, while another unnamed victim was grazed by a bullet, according to News 8. Both were transported to St. Francis Hospital.

"Almost mirror images of each other," Lt. Brian Foley told News 8 about the two separte shootings. "The similarities are incredible. Basically, just small little things that separate the two."

NBC reports Hartford's mayor said, "the city and the club will be working together to create a plan for the future, but the problem goes beyond this one establishment."
