A tragic incident happened in Germany when a 92-year-old woman was already pronounced dead but was discovered alive inside a funeral home. The unnamed German woman was found screaming inside a Berlin refrigeration room the authorities have confirmed, according to the Inquisitr.
The elderly woman had been pronounced dead in March by an unnamed doctor at her retirement home. According to the doctor, the woman was no longer breathing and there was no pulse present. Her body was transferred to the morgue to prepare her for the funeral, Inquisitr added.
Later the evening, a funeral home worker heard the woman alive and screaming from inside the refrigeration room. She was transported to a local hospital afterwards but she died two days later from heart disease. The woman's real death was not connected to the previous incident, ABC News reported.
German prosecutors have recently charged negligent body harm on the 53-year-old doctor responsible for declaring the woman dead. According to the Essen prosecutor, Birgit Juergens, the doctor's name was not released to abide with privacy regulations. Juergen declared that the man could be penalized with a fine or appropriate prison time if proven guilty, said on the Telegraph U.K.
A similar incident happened to a 92-year-old woman the United States in July 2011. She was declared dead and had her bank account drained by the United States Department of Treasury, which the federal law requires. The woman lost $17,000, but the money was given back to her after proving she was still alive, said on the Inquisitr.
The German 92-year-old woman, on the other hand, is now resting peacefully. Both names of the people were not released since the cases are still pending.
