"Keith Richards: Under the Influence," a documentary that will give viewers an unprecedented look into the sounds and influences of the Rolling Stones guitarist, will air for the very first time on Netflix in September.
The documentary is directed by filmmaker Morgan Neville, who recently won an academy award for his documentary about backup singers called "20 Feet From Stardom," according to Rolling Stone.
"There's no one who could bring this unprecedented look into the musical influences of Keith Richards to life as distinctively as Morgan Neville," said Lisa Nishimura, Netflix VP of Original Documentary Programming. "Our viewers around the world are going to love the rare moments he has captured," according to Deadline.
The documentary is scheduled to premiere on the streaming service on Sept. 18, the same day Richards' first solo album in 20 years, "Crosseyed Heart" is to be released, as HNGN previously reported.
"If there's a Mount Rushmore of rock 'n' roll, Keith's face is surely on it," Neville said. "He has always represented the soul of rock music -- for all of the light and dark shades that implies. To my relief, Keith Richards turned out to be a real man -- full of humor, knowledge and wisdom. That's the real Keith we've worked to capture in our film and I'm honored to bring it to a global audience via Netflix."
The documentary will not only include "both new and beloved music, rare archival materials and hours of intimate and reflective conversations" with Richards, but will also feature "key people and places" that the musician has gained inspiration from, Entertainment Weekly reported.
