Mountain Ash Shooting: Second Suspect Placed Under Arrest

The almost fatal shooting of 43-year-old Mark Jones in a lay-by on New Road has taken another significant turn, as a second suspect has been arrested in connection with the shooting incident.

The shooting happened at around 7:40 p.m. on Sunday night, with witnesses stating that they heard two gunshots from a parked white Audi A3, which belonged to Jones. The victim was then rushed to the Prince Charles Hospital in Merthyr Tydfil, where he remains in critical condition, according to Wales Online.

The first suspect, a 46-year-old man, was arrested on Monday. With the recent arrest of the second suspect, the police have been granted an additional 36 hours to question the first suspect in the incident, reports BBC News.

Both suspects, as well as the victim, hail from Mountain Ash.

Detective chief inspector Ceri Hughes has stated that the police are dealing with any developments in the case as a priority.

"We need to piece together Mr Jones' movements before the shooting," he said.

He also encourages the public to provide any pertinent information that may help the police in solving the case.

"We want to hear from anyone who saw or spent time with him during the course of Sunday evening," he said. "We would also like to hear from anyone who was near the lay-by in New Road, Mountain Ash, between 7:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. and saw what happened, the victim's car, or anybody in the area around this time."

Shootings between civilians have become quite prominent as of late, with a Florida man recently ending up in a hospital after a shooting incident, HNGN previously reported.
