The news all "Fifty Shades of Grey" fans have been waiting for has officially been announced! E.L. James took to Twitter to announce the two lead roles of Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele will go to Charlie Hunnam and Dakota Johnson.
Neither actor was a fan-favorite or a first choice for fans but their names surfaced early last week when The Wrap and Variety broke the news that they were each serious contenders for the role. According to Variety, Hunnam was approached for the role by executives and producers but initially turned it down because he didn't want to commit to do doing a trilogy. It has already been revealed that James and "Team 50" plan on making three movies from the New York Times best-selling novels.
However, after rethinking it he approached producers telling them that he did want to be reconsidered for the role. James announced the role of Steele first on Twitter before telling her followers that the "Pacific Rim" actor would star as the kinky billionaire.
There have been mixed reactions about the news. Some fans love that Hunnam has been cast but others are don't like the casting decision at all. Even though he is a good actor and he's old enough for the part some feel he is not "Christian-Grey-sexy."
In the books Christian Grey in dripping with sex appeal. He's hot, tall and drives women crazy. Hunnam is definitely easy on the eyes but he may be a little too rugged. However, there are pictures of the actor on the Internet with a nice clean-shaven face and a shorter haircut which could work in the movie.
Physically, he is Christian Grey. At 6'1 he's tall enough, has the broad shoulders and does have a smile that would leave most girls melting in their seats.
