Former University of Cincinnati Police Officer Ray Tensing pleaded not guilty on Thursday to charges of murder and voluntary manslaughter in the death of Samuel Dubose on July 19, CNN reported.
Judge Megan Shanahan set a bond for Tensing to $1 million at the arraignment, which prompted the courtroom to briefly break into a chant of "no justice, no peace" in support of the decision.
However, Shanahan was quick to end the uproar of the spectators. "This is a courtroom," she said, HNGN previously reported
Tensing is set to appear on court again on Aug. 19, according to the New York Daily News.
Earlier this month, Tensing shot Dubose in the head, which instantly killed him, during a traffic stop a few blocks away from the university.
Tensing had claimed he was "dragged" by Dubose's vehicle and that he was forced to shoot him after a struggle. However, footage of the incident shows that Tensing provided a false account, in which it shows Tensing actually falling over after he had shot Dubose.
