Miley Cyrus has finally spoken out about her VMA performance with Robin Thicke and the 20-year-old singer doesn't know what all the fuss is about, the Daily News reports.
"Me and Robin [Thicke] the whole time said, 'you know we're about to make history right now,'" Cyrus said during an interview with MTV.
In the clip, which is a part of a longer documentary she is working on, she opens up for the first time about her performance that has left many people confused and offended. On Sunday night, Cyrus walked onto the VMA stage in a nude ensemble, giant dancing teddy bears and a giant foam finger.
Things heated up after Robin Thicke came out to perform his hit song "Blurred Lines" with the singer. Viewers were shocked as she twerked up against the married man and inappropriately used her foam finger to make crude gestures.
"I don't pay attention to the negative because I've seen this play out so many times... Madonna's done it. Britney's done it," she continued. "Every VMA performance, that's what you're looking for, you're wanting to make history."
"What's amazing is I think now, we're three days later and people are still talking about it," Cyrus said. "They're overthinking it... you're thinking about it more than I thought about it when I did it. Like, I didn't even think about it 'cause that's just me."
Thicke didn't see anything wrong with the performance either and tweeted that it was "dope" giving a shout-out to Cyrus. Several other celebrities came to her defense as well.
"It's been done before," Justin Timberlake tweeted adding during a radio interview "Listen, man, you know, it's the VMAs, What did you expect?"
"I like Miley, I like her a loot. I think, you know, she's young," he continued. "She's letting everybody know that she's growing up."
Thick's wife, actress Paula Patton also saw nothing wrong with the performance. A source told TMZ that Patton, who has been with the "Blurred Lines" singer since they were 16, said that it was a "non-issue" between the two. Several days after the performance, Patton was pictured with her husband and three-year-old son Julian on a beach vacation in Miami.
