Kraft is recalling 36,000 cases of Kraft Singles due to the plastic wrapping and its potential choking hazard. The recall includes both pasteurized American and white American slices. The cases affected by this recall have a "best when used by" date between December 29, 2015, and January 4, 2016. They are followed by the manufacturing code "S54" or "S55," according to CNN.
No other Kraft cheese products are being recalled at this time.
This voluntary recall is due to the possibility that a thin strip of the plastic wrapping may stick to the slice of cheese even after the wrapper is removed, according to a press release by Kraft.
The products being recalled were shipped to retailers in the U.S., Puerto Rico, and Grand Cayman, according to the press release. No other regions are currently affected.
This is not Kraft's first voluntary recall spurred by customer complaints. Earlier this year, Kraft recalled 242,000 cases of their Kraft Macaroni and Cheese Dinners, according to the Inquisitr.
After this latest recall, Kraft said in their press release that they "deeply regret this situation and apologize to any consumers we have disappointed."
The company has received 10 complaints as well as three reports of choking, according to NBC News. If in the possession of any of these products, Kraft urges customers not to eat them. The recalled products should instead be returned to the store for a full refund.
