Prosecutors in Turkey have demanded lengthy jail sentences for 29 people who were suspected of being part of a prostitution ring in the southeast province of Adana that became notorious for organizing swinger parties in which prostitutes were involved.
The suspects are facing up to 177 years behind bars on charges of "prostitution," "organizing a crime syndicate," and "human trafficking," according to The Guardian.
Turkish police apprehended 53 people in a raid back in May under suspicions of pimping and prostitution. Of the 53 that were taken in for questioning, 29 were charged, with 15 of them being placed under arrest while the others were released pending trial.
The crackdown on the ring began five months ago, when the Adana Vice Police Department started monitoring a couple studying at the Çukurova University after they received a tip that the couple was organizing swinger parties for married couples, reports The Hurriyet Daily News.
After technical surveillance, the authorities were able to confirm that the couple had rented a luxury villa in Adana's Sarıçam district and hosted customers from the neighboring provinces of Mersin, Kayseri, Osmaniye and Şanlıurfa. Interestingly, the ring did not accept customers from Adana itself due to security reasons.
The couple who began the swingers' club was reported to have started it simply to fulfill their sexual fantasies by connecting with other couples though social media. However, they began to expand their activities over time, arranging parties in which women were offered to single men and married couples.
Single men were charged 1,000 Turkish Lira (US$360) for each party. One of the women who was arrested and charged stated that she accepted the money in order to support her father.
Swingers and swingers' clubs have been quite popular lately, as reported in this HNGN article.
