Shonda Rhimes, the creative genius behind ABC's hit series "Grey's Anatomy," "Scandal," and "How to Get Away with Murder" offered some rare scoop into the future of her shows at the Television Critics Association's semi-annual press tour on Tuesday. The normally tight-lipped Rhimes has some very interesting things to say about her three shows, including the Kerry Washington-led "Scandal."
After the events of last season, "Scandal" picks up pretty much where the show left off. "The world had been fairly blown apart for everybody except Olivia and Fitz," Rhimes said. "Everybody else was in a fairly blown apart place... We pick up right there in that environment and we see what's happens next."
Season four signed off with Olivia and Fitz meeting on the Truman balcony to do a little bit of not-so-secretive kissing. The fate of most of the other characters is still up in the air - Cyrus no longer works at the White House, Millie no longer lives at the White House, Jake walks away and Quinn is thinking about killing Huck. What a disaster.
When season five of Scandal returns on Sept. 24, Fitz might consider leaving Mellie for good. "For me, what's exciting is exploring the possibility of really seeing what happens next versus doing the thing I think everyone expects us to do, which is bounce everybody back into the place that they were," Rhimes said.
"Scandal" returns to ABC for its fifth season on Thursday, Sept. 24 at 9 p.m.
