Hartford, Conn. has become Dave Chappelle's punching bag during a recent Chicago comedy performance. The 40-year-old comedian used the "meltdown" incident as the butt of his jokes.
Last week, Chappelle made headlines when he walked off stage during a comedy performance in Hartford after getting booed by the crowd. Instead of explaining what happened, he used the incident as his new joke material, the Daily Mail reports.
"F**k Hartford," he said to the cheering crowd. "I swear to God f**k that whole city. [Chicago] is so much better than Hartford. I will never go back... I wouldn't even go to Hartford for f**king gas."
He thanked the Chicago audience for coming out to see him perform and according to an audio clip released online of his skit it seems like it went a lot better than his last show. He told the Chicago that the Hartford crowd was "evil" and full of "young, white alcoholics booing and talking shit."
As the crowd laughed, Chappelle continued saying that he wanted to pull a reverse Kramer - referring to the 2006 stand-up performance by Michael Richards who used the N-word during a joke - but he thought better of it.
According to the Daily Mail, Hartford audience members were upset and disappointed over the comedian storming off the stage and are now demanding their money back. There's been no word on whether the crowd will get a refund but Chappelle made it clear he is not in a hurry to ever go back.
"I don't want anything bad to happen to the United States," he joked sarcastically. "But if North Korea ever drops a nuclear bomb on this country, I swear to God I hope it lands in Hartford, Connecticut."
According to a review by Afrobella.com and some Twitter users, Chappelle's recent stand-up was a hit.
"From the minute Dave Chappelle took the stage, he was ready to address the Hartford issue. He brought it up right away and let us know that Chicago was an immeasurably better crowd than the one he'd encountered earlier in the week," the website says. "His set was raunchy and sharply observant, deep, poignant and always HILARIOUS."
