Three relatives of Jody Herring, the mother from Vermont who lost custody of her 9-year-old daughter, were found dead by a 23-year-old woman in a Berlin farmhouse Saturday morning.
Police recovered a pile of shell casings at the scene of the crime and all three victims sustained gunshot wounds, according to the New York Daily News.
Gov. Peter Shumlin identified the victims as the suspect's cousins Rhonda Herring and Regina Herring, who were in their late 40s, and the suspect's aunt Julianne Falzarano, who was in her 70s.
Autopsies will be conducted on the victims, and they were believed to have been killed before 40-year-old Herring killed child welfare worker Lara Sobel on Friday afternoon.
Herring is currently facing a first-degree homicide charge in the death of Sobel and is set for arraignment on Monday afternoon, according to the Associated Press.
The incident took place outside a state office building that houses the state's Department for Children and Families (DFC), where Herring took two shots at close range.
Sobel died on the spot, and two witnesses who saw the incident tackled Herring to the ground. She had been involved with the case of Herring, whose 9-year-old daughter was taken to state care on July 10, HNGN previously reported.
