George Zimmerman Divorce: Wife Shellie Says 'I Have a Selfish Husband' (VIDEO)

While George Zimmerman's wife Shellie stood by his side for the months of hiding prior to his being acquitted in the shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, even going as far as perjuring herself during one of his bond hearings, the strain on their marriage eventually became too great as Shellie filed for divorce, according to the Associated Press.

"I stood by my husband through everything and I kind of feel like he left me with a bunch of broken glass that I'm supposed to now assemble and make a life...It's just heartbreaking," Shellie told ABC News.

In an exclusive interview on "Good Morning America" Shellie revealed that George had only spent three or four nights at home since the end of his murder trial in July. The couple even went to counseling but nothing more could be done.

"I have a selfish husband and I think George is all about George," Shellie said.

A week ago Shellie was convicted of perjury after lying about the couple's finances during one of George's bail hearings. Shellie was sentenced to a year of probation and 100 hours of community service, her husband was notably absent from the courtroom, according to the Associated Press.

"I think I'm realizing that I have been married to a person for almost seven years, and I don't think that I ever really knew him at all," Shellie said.

In the divorce filing Shellie is asking for equal distribution of the couple's assets including any money George may win in a defamation suit against NBC. Shellie is also seeking sole custody of the couple's two dogs, according to ABC News.

"I have been married to a person for about seven years and I don't think I ever really knew him at all," Shellie said. "I have supported him for so long and neglected myself for too long. And I feel like I'm finally starting to feel empowered again."
