With news of Apple's Sept. 10 unveiling of the new iPhone 5S and iPhone C, many are wondering what this will mean for the release of iOS 7, which was showcased at this year's World Wide Developer's Conference. Also debuted at the June event was the next OS update for Macs, OS X Mavericks. Typically an iOS release and an OS X release would go together but, it seems the company is pushing back the release of OS X 10.9, or OS X Mavericks, to October.
9To5Mac cites sources close to the company that say Apple will release OS X Mavericks after the release of the iOS 7 with the Iphone 5S and iPhone C later this month. There has also been talks of Apple Inc. holding the iPad iOS 7 update until after October, meaning perhaps it will be released along with OS X Mavericks.
OS X Mavericks will include several enhancements to the current OS Mountain Lion including upgrades to improve the support for multiple monitors, a faster version of the Safari web browser, a redesigned Calendar application, power use features to the Finder Window that include the ability to make tabbed folders.
The new OS X for Mac has been in beta tests since its unveiling in June. The most recent developer preview arrived earlier this week and includes several performance enhancements over the previous version.
9To5Mac reports that the addition of the push of the release to October is likely a way for the company to ensure that it can focus all of its efforts on the release of iOS 7 along with the new iPhone 5S and iPhone C that will be released later this month.
The release of OS X Mavericks is likely the precursor for a release of a slew of new Mac products this fall, including updated versions of the Mac Pro, iMac and MacBook Pro.
