Microsoft announced that its Microsoft Game Store will offer select Xbox 360 games an upgrade to the company's new next-generation console, the Xbox One, for just $10.
Recently, similar deals were issued by Best Buy and Amazon for customers who want to trade in older titles of games and upgrade to the Xbox One. Microsoft announced this week that it would continue to offer support for its previous-generation Xbox 360 up through 2016. This new deal means users who want to wait to drop the $499 on the Xbox One can do so without having to drop even more money on new $60 copies of a game they've already dropped money on once. The offer remains in place through the end of the year.
The list of eligible titles, according to Joystiq, includes: "Madden NFL 25," "Battlefield 4," "Need For Speed: Rivals," "Call of Duty: Ghosts," "NBA 2K14," "FIFA 14" and "Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag."
Players who wish to take advantage of this deal will need to ensure they keep their 360 titles in good condition as they will need to bring their games in to a Microsoft Store to receive the respective Xbox One copy of the game and pay their $10 fee for the upgrade. Unlike the deals offered by other retailers, Ubisoft's title "Watch Dogs" is not listed on the Microsoft deal.
Many speculate that Microsoft's deal will not be as successful without the inclusion of "Watch Dogs." In addition, there are far fewer physical Microsoft Stores then there are Best Buys and Amazon can be done from anywhere as long as customers don't mind hassling with the mail a little bit to get their 360 copy verified.
Previously, Microsoft's competitor Sony and its PlayStation 4 has mentioned that it will allow for games to be upgraded between console for very cheap. However, they've yet announced anything too official. However, users can expect a comparable price as most developers are unlikely to create separate deals.
