"The View" co-host Rosie Perez quit her gig early and refused to show up for her final two episode tapings because producers of the show forced her to apologize to Osbourne on the air after she made controversial comments about Latinos, reported the Daily Mail. Perez was supposed to stay on as a co-host until the season was finished at the end of August, according to People.
The ordeal started when Osbourne offended Perez with comments she made about Latinos.
"If you kick every Latino out of this country, then who is going to be cleaning your toilet, Donald Trump?" Osbourne asked. A silence fell over the studio audience as other co-hosts were clearly taken aback by Osbourne's comments.
When the show went to commercial Osbourne apparently burst into tears. "Everyone is going to think I'm racist. I can't believe this," she cried, as producers of the show ran to her side. At the time producers of the show demanded Perez apologize to Kelly in the last segment of the live broadcast, a source told Daily Mail.
"She and the ABC executives had it out. She was yelling at them at the top of her lungs that their demands were disrespectful," a source said, according to Wonderwall. "They were telling her that she better do exactly as they said. It was an ugly scene and Rosie was crying uncontrollably and outraged."
After her forced on-air apology, Perez bolted to her dressing room and had no further interaction with Osbourne. She then got into a heated argument with the producers.
"She may have missed a few days pay, but to walk away with her dignity is likely far more important for Rosie in this situation," the source said of Perez leaving the show early.
