Uggie, the adorable Jack Russell Terrier of "The Artist" fame has passed away after a prolonged battle with a prostate tumor, according to TMZ.
Uggie, who featured in the 2012 Oscar-winning film as "The Dog" was put to sleep on Friday in Los Angeles, Calif. The 13-year-old pooch's owner, Omar Von Mueller, said it was an incredibly hard decision for him to put down Uggie, whom he rescued from being sent to the pound, but the dog was suffering with the tumor and the last few weeks were especially difficult.
"I will forever hold him dearly in my heart and never forget his infinite love for chicken and hotdogs," said Sarah Clifford, Uggie's trainer.
Uggie received a Palm Dog award at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival for "The Artist" and his other films include 2011's "Water for Elephants," starring Reese Witherspoon, Christoph Waltz and Robert Pattinson. Uggie became the first dog to have his paws imprinted on Hollywood's Walk of Fame, which he was honored with for his performance in "The Artist," according to The Hollywood Reporter.
