This week's sneak peek at "Captain America: Civil War" at the D23 Expo did not, unfortunately, include any glimpses of Tom Holland as the new Spider-Man. But the film itself may be beefing up on Spidey as a welcoming party to Marvel's Cinematic Universe.
A few weeks ago it was reported that Holland had already completed his cameo scenes while filming in Atlanta. Now, ComicBook.com is reporting that he has joined the cast in Germany for additional sequences.
When Marvel and Sony first announced their partnership to share the Spider-Man character, it was believed he'd make his first appearance in a very limited role in "Civil War." Now, however, it appears as if he might be in multiple scenes in advance of his 2017 solo film. Holland's involvement in the film was officially confirmed this weekend when he was listed as a cast member for the film.
This supports previous rumors that hinted that fans would be able to see Spider-Man in full super hero action, thought maybe not as they had initially imagined. From Birth.Movies.Death.:
"How many scenes will Spider-Man be in? I don't know the exact numbers, but sources have recently made it clear to me that there's more Spider-Man in this movie than I expected," Devin Faraci wrote. "Spider-Man doesn't just swing by and say hi - he gets his hands dirty in this Civil War. He fights. And his fight scene might be the one that really gets fandom excited - not because of how top tier the face-off will be, but because of how profoundly dorky and unlike any other big screen superhero fight it will be."
Remember, Marvel intentionally cast Holland after an extensive search because they wanted to go young with the character of Peter Parker. That means he hasn't been a super hero for very long and is still figuring out his crime fighting ways. If rumors are to be believed, fans will be seeing the rookie version of Spider-Man in "Civil War" and that could serve as some comedic fodder for the film.
"Captain America: Civil War" opens in theaters on May 6, 2016. "Spider-Man" is scheduled for a July 28, 2017 release.
