Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Nobel Peace Prize winner and social activist, was hospitalized again, according to CNN. His current hospital stay is for "inflammation," his daughter said at a press briefing.
The archbishop is currently 83 years old and has been in and out of the hospital for years. He was admitted Monday night to a hospital in South Africa and will stay for at least 24 hours, according to CNN.
Tutu has been treated for prostate cancer for 18 years, but it is currently under control, according to Fox News.
A press briefing on Tuesday by Tutu's daughter, Mpho Tutu, confirmed his hospitalization, and she added that his current infection is not the same as the one he had been treated for weeks earlier, according to Fox News.
"He is 83, not 38," Tutu's daughter said, according to CNN. "So bouncing back from an illness is not quite as easy as it once was."
He is expected to be released within the week, according to Fox News.
The archbishop is a renowned social activist, successful anti-apartheid campaigner, founder of the Desmond Tutu Peace Foundation and veteran cleric, according to Reuters. He retired from public life in 2010 but still speaks on issues involving South African politics and social justice.
