A man died when he fell from the 14th floor of the University of Hawaii Manoa Campus dormitory in Honolulu on Sunday. The 24-year-old victim fell when he tried to pull a 19-year-old man attempting to jump from a ledge at the Hale Wainani dormitory. Both men were in critical condition and immediately rushed to the hospital where the 24-year-old was pronounced dead. Neither were students at the university.
"It's a terrible tragedy - the last thing we want to happen, whether they are students or not. Of course, our condolences go out to their friends and family," said Dan Meisenzahl, University of Hawaii spokesperson, according to The Sky News.
The 20 students presently living in the dorm were supposed to be moving out on Sunday for the cleaning of the dorm ahead of the fall semester. Those who were arriving for the upcoming semester were expected to have moved in by Tuesday and Friday. The dorm houses more than 600 students during the school year.
The university is a campus a very small fraternity scene and is more of a commuter school. Of it's population of 18,000, about 4,000 live on campus, according to the Associated Press.
The university has already contacted all 20 students and offered them counseling which the university has also made available to other students, Meisenzahl reported, according to The Fox News.
