Next year's "Suicide Squad" centers on a team of super villains, but that doesn't mean there won't be a few familiar good guys. We know from rumors and the trailer that Ben Affleck's Batman will be making a cameo. Jason Momoa's Aquaman may be present in some capacity as well. But what about Henry Cavill's Superman?
Although Supes kicked off DC's Extended Universe with "Man of Steel," he will not be present in "Suicide Squad," according to Cavill himself. When asked if he'll appear in a sequel, though, he enthusiastically replied "I might be!"
As of now, Cavill is only set to appear in the upcoming "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice," "Justice League: Part One" and "Part Two." A sequel to "Man of Steel" is still in the works, but a specific date has not yet been set. Even if "Suicide Squad" does get a sequel, movie goers likely won't see it for a few years thanks to DC's crowded film slate which extends to 2020.
Even though Superman won't be seen in "Suicide Squad," his presence will be felt. Viola Davis, who plays Amanda Waller, is heard in the trailer discussing Superman's existence and the reaction it spurred among other beings with "abilities." In that vein, he's similar to Marvel's Tony Stark/Iron Man as he acts a shepherd of sorts for other heroes/villains. Superman is also a unifying thread throughout the DCEU, even if he is not physically present.
Cavill will next be seen as Kal-El on March 25, 2016 in "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice." "Suicide Squad" will follow on August 5, 2016.
