Two women died after they fell roughly 200 feet while attempting to climb a mountain at Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming.
Authorities identified the two victims as Tyler Strandberg, 27, and Catherine Nix, 28. Both were from Jackson, Wyoming, reported KPAX. Their bodies were recovered from a rocky ledge at an elevation of roughly 11,500 feet.
A third member of the climbing party, Rebecca Anderson, 26, was rescued unhurt from a small ledge.
The National Park Service says the incident occured around 11 a.m. Saturday on the 12,300 foot Teewinot (tee-WIN'-aht) Mountain - the sixth largest peak in the Teton Range, reported the Chicago Tribune. The trio were allegedly attempting to climb the East Face of the mountain and were well off the preferred route when the two fell.
The Park Service also noted, according to the Associated Press, none of the three women were using safety ropes during their climb.
Photos from the victim's Facebook pages reveal they were both avid adventurers and had experience climbing various mountains without the aid of ropes in the past. In light of this fact, most have regarded the incident as an unfortunate accident, while others consider the two as having a "death wish".
