"The Big Bang Theory" star Mayim Bialik spoke out about her religious views in a recent interview with Fox News. The actress was best known for her role in "Blossom," but also for being a person of faith in Hollywood.
Bialik used her platform as a celebrity to support the causes she deemed important to her. The Jewish star recently went on a trip to Israel that caused a lot of controversy on social media.
"I've gotten a lot of negative attention for visiting Israel," she told FOX411. She was visiting a friend in the Israel Defense Forces.
"That's what's amazing...simply by going to Israel this summer and saying nothing more than, 'I've gone to Israel,' I got the same amount of hatred and threats and anti-Semitism for actually making a statement trying to support people whether I like it or not are serving in an army."
In the interview the actress admitted that she was not a fan of the "bureaucracy of organized religion," however, she did add that she had an "unwavering faith in a power greater than myself," according to E!.
While most of the threats she received on social media were from fans, the actress said the entertainment industry in general just was not friendly to people who were open with their faith.
"I think in general it's never going to be trendy to be observant or religious in Hollywood circles," she said candidly. "There are people I know of faith and we tend to congregate together. I study Jewish texts weekly. That's something really positive to me when you're a person of faith, it stays with you all the time."
Bialik was raised as a Modern Reform Jew but called herself an "aspiring Modern Orthodox" as an adult, according to the Daily Mail.
